Siwa Protected Area located between the Libyan border and the Qattara Depression in northwest Egypt. In fact, the area designated as a protectorate for its faunal and cultural diversity. Siwa Oasis has many lakes and over a thousand springs. But the water is very saline and supports little agriculture except dates, olives and a few vegetables. The oasis supports the endangered Slender-horned Gazelle, Gazella leptoceros, Fennec Fox and Vulpes zerda. It may still be home to the Cheetah, Acinonyx jubatus, one of the most threatened cats in the world.
